We talk a lot about evening light, but your body clock has two ends. The signal that starts the day matters just as much as the one that ends it.
Why outside beats inside
Even on an overcast Canadian morning, daylight outdoors is typically many times brighter than a well-lit room. That bright morning signal helps anchor your daily rhythm.
The habit
- Within an hour of waking, step outside for 10 to 20 minutes.
- No sunglasses if it's comfortable, and never look directly at the sun.
- Cloudy or cold? Still go. Stand on the balcony with your coffee.
- Work near a window for the rest of the morning.
Winter in Canada
In December, sunrise can come after 8am. Get outside as soon as it's light, and make your indoor mornings as bright as you can.
